Asha Moolya, once burdened by the long hours and limited staff at Solid Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) in the Nitte Grama panchayat, found a lifeline when she decided to join Project Anmol Kinara in Udupi. Her previous job had her working long hours with no holidays which often resulted in spending limited time with her family.

After joining rePurpose Global’s Project Anmol Kinara she had the opportunity to find a job with reasonable hours allowing her to balance work and family. “My role [with the project] has given me a chance to earn more money to support my husband and improve our quality of life while also being able to spend more quality time with my family.”

Honfret Ndjamen, also known as Sako, is a 33-year-old with an immense passion for environmental conservation. In addition to his job as a motorcycle taxi driver in Douala, he manages to dedicate time to collecting plastic waste from drainage systems. .

Sako dedicates his mornings every weekend to this activity, which he does with passion and love.

When Sako started collecting plastics from rivers of Cameroon, it wasn’t very easy as there were eyes on him - “what is this guy doing? What does he do with bottles?” But since then, he has become a catalyst for environmental awareness among his peers, inspiring several young people to join him.

Meet Sangeeta Devi, a waste warrior supporting her family financially and emotionally.

Two years ago, during the monsoon season when work was scarce, she and her husband were barely surviving. Then, she met Clinton, ( Waste Entrepreneur at Project Saaf Samudra) who offered her a job and guided her through the process. With Project Saaf Samudra, she has transitioned from struggling to make ends meet to playing a crucial role in waste management.

Working in waste management comes with its own set of challenges and stigma, but she takes pride in the difference she is making. With the support of Project Saaf Samudra, she is now on her way to becoming debt-free. She has cleared off most of her INR 2.5 Lakh (~USD 3,000) debt and is excited to achieve complete financial independence.
