rePurpose Global Impact Framework in action

The BASE Framework is our leading impact creation process that is the strong foundation for each rePurpose Global plastic recovery impact project. This framework ensures that our interventions in each geography create additional, impactful and verifiable outcomes.

1. Baseline
Plastic pollution and gender inequality
  • Coastal litter in Kerala is 3 times the global average.
  • Only 21% of women in the state are employed, and have the highest gender pay gap in India.
2. Additionality
Village collections to intercept ocean-bound plastic
  • New home collection facilities where it was inconsistent
  • Support transportation to the best end-of-life destination for materials
3. Solution
Solution for Project Hara Kal
  • Public private partnership to upskill local women for file mile collections.
  • Increased collection and sorting rates.
  • Transportation to appropriate end-of-life.
4. Evaluation
Verra registered
  • The project has been certified by and is listed on the Verra Registry after undergoing a rigorous audit and verification process.

Meet Bindu - Waste Warrior from Project Hara Kal

“Through this work, many people started to recognize me, and our neighbors have a positive opinion about my job... We raised awareness about the effects of waste pollution, and we no longer see waste in the river."

Bindu is a waste worker and the sole breadwinner in her family. After her husband got injured Bindu had to financially support him and their two children.

Bindu earns money by being part of the Haritha Karma Sena: a local government programme for women to collect household waste in Kerala. Through the Haritha Karma Sena’s partnership with Green Worms and rePurpose Global, Bindu has seen her income from waste collection increase, and her status in the community enhanced.
